Similarities And Differences Between Iago And Othello

The tragedy of Othello is not just a story of jealousy but rather a clash of two worlds. In Shakespearean plays we many times see the protagonist fall due to deceit, human flaws, and corruption of their society. We specifically see the hero fall in Shakespeares Othello as a man trying to be himself with a corrupt friendship in Iago. Othello is seen to be the noble moor of Venice. He is respected by society for his many actions of nobility and bravery. Iago on the other hand is the villain plotting around Othello and others in his society he lives in. The noble moor of Venice Othello is shown to be very brave and courageous of all of the city and the army he leads. Their inconsistent characteristics is what separate the two from each†¦show more content†¦Othello gets most of all his orders from the duke and the senate of the lands. Iago job is less complex to where he is called to do small jobs in the military. While the commander (Othello) sets the rules, the strategies, an d the vision. Iago by natural humanism is forced to be the servant of the â€Å"moor† hating him and feeling the sense of humiliation. Othello and Iago love emotions shows throughout the play that they have certain different view on their wives. Othello is so in love with Desdemona that he can’t imagine the thought of her being unfaithful to him. The aspect of him and his unbreakable love for Desdemona can be seen in these lines: â€Å"But that I love the gentle Desdemona, I would not my unhoused free condition, Put into circumscription and confine† (Othello 561;lines 25-28). Othello and Desdemona shows a healthy and genuine love for each other. Othello shows his affection for Desdemona despite their racial differences. Throughout the play Othello reassures us about their love and no one else’s thought can break it. Unlike Othello, Iago shows no true love for his wife. Iago actually uses his for his own personal gains. We see this when Iago uses Emilia and her close friendship with Desdemona to plant a seed for Othello to fail. This has no equivalent comparison to the love Othello had for his wife.
